Battle of the Giants

We were thrilled to be invited to Gy in France to experience a reference Wadax, CH Precision and Göbel system in one of the world’s most sophisticated listening rooms.

Tucked away in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of eastern France, the charming rural town of Gy holds a surprising secret: it is home to one of the world’s most sophisticated, high end audio facilities. For this is HQ of Gy8: a specialised, independent listening facility and review site featuring dedicated acoustic rooms designed for testing premium, high-end home audio systems.

We were understandably delighted then by the invitation to join an elite list of high-end audio journalists, manufacturers, installers and industry professionals given a unique opportunity to experience one of the world’s leading speaker and amplifier setups, alongside a head-to-head demonstration of the two defining digital sources in ultra-high-end audio – CH Precision and Wadax.

And we were equally thrilled that our own AcouPlex ReFract damping panels, RoCoCo cable lifters and AcouPly cable damping were chosen for system-wide application to optimise and further elevate performance.

Commanding centre stage within this extraordinary “mega system” was the Göbel Divin Monarque—the flagship model and definitive benchmark for high-end, high-efficiency loudspeakers.

Driving these majestic towers was the all-new, eight-box CH Precision reference system alongside the latest Wadax reference system, a phenomenal collective of reference CD transports, preamplifiers, DACs, power amplifiers and external power supplies.

It was a presentation that, for once, left Larry entirely lost for words! Though he later offered this observation:

“Until the last few days, I really hadn’t a clue what was encoded into the pits of the humble CD!”

Both setups delivered unparalleled insight and staggering beauty, making it a genuinely unforgettable experience.

Sincere thanks to Roy Gregory of Gy8 for the invitation and hospitality. Read his own thoughts here.
